This ongoing five-day selling spree has drained approximately $1.72 billion from Bitcoin-related investment products overall. Consequently, the total net assets under management (AUM) for these products dropped sharply from $124.56 billion on January 16 to $115.88 billion by January 23.
Meanwhile, cumulative net inflows across all related funds decreased slightly—from $57.82 billion down to about $56.49 billion during this period—highlighting reduced investor appetite as most Bitcoin ETFs recorded no activity on January 23 except for IBIT and FBTC.
$708 Million Exodus From Bitcoin ETFs
The downturn began on January 16 with an initial withdrawal of nearly $395 million from Bitcoin ETFs—reversing a prior four-day inflow run that had attracted roughly $1.81 billion into these funds.
Following a market closure over the weekend, redemptions resumed aggressively starting January 20 with withdrawals hitting around half a billion dollars ($483 million).
The peak single-day loss occurred on January 21 when investors pulled out approximately $709 million in one session alone; subsequent days saw continued though smaller exits: about $32 million on January 22 and over $103 million again by the close of trading on January 23—the fifth straight day registering negative flows.
Total trading volume also declined significantly alongside this sell-off—from highs near $5.51 billion traded on January 21 down to just $3.36 billion two days later—erasing earlier mid-January gains fueled by strong institutional buying interest in Bitcoin ETF shares.
A number of prominent trusts including Grayscale’s GBTC and its mini BTC trust along with Bitwise’s BITB; Ark &21Shares’ ARKB; VanEck’s HODL; Invesco’s BTCO; Valkyrie’s BRRR; Franklin Templeton’s EZBC; WisdomTree’s BTCW and Hashdex’s DEFI all reported zero flow activity as investors held back further movements within those products as of Jan-23.
