Chun Wang, co-founder of F2Pool and the first Bitcoiner to venture into space, believes that concerns about quantum computing compromising Bitcoin are exaggerated.
“Those worried about quantum computers dismantling Bitcoin have likely never coded anything related to quantum technology,” Wang remarked.
Emphasizing Interplanetary Expansion
Recent developments in the realm of quantum computing have sparked ongoing debates regarding the security of Bitcoin’s SHA-256 hashing algorithm.
Projects like Google’s Willow, Microsoft’s Majorana 1, and IBM’s Blue Jay demonstrate progress in this cutting-edge field. Despite their advancements, these technologies remain somewhat enigmatic and lack practical applications that could showcase their true capabilities.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently consulted Grok, an AI chatbot from xAI, to assess the likelihood of SHA-256 being compromised.
Nonetheless, Wang remains confident that by the time humans establish colonies on Mars, quantum computers will still not have breached Bitcoin’s defenses. “Instead of fretting over quantum computing threats,” he suggests focusing on adapting Bitcoin for latency tolerance to support an interplanetary society.”
Wang emphasizes his vision for Bitcoin as a stable currency for interplanetary settlements rather than relying on transient altcoins.
A Landmark Space Journey
Diving into history with U.Today’s report: Wang embarked on a journey beyond Earth as part of the Fram2 mission alongside three fellow astronauts traversing Earth’s polar region.
The mission included conducting 22 scientific experiments such as pioneering X-ray operations in outer space.
