Today, Presidio Bitcoin, a prominent Bitcoin center in California’s Bay Area, has unveiled a dynamic knowledge repository on Github. This platform is designed to monitor the ongoing research concerning Bitcoin’s vulnerability to quantum computing.
Our Quantum Bitcoin Summit held last July significantly advanced discussions surrounding quantum issues in the realm of bitcoin.
We are excited to announce the release of “Bitcoin’s Quantum Readiness,” an evolving document that addresses bitcoin’s vulnerabilities, potential mitigation strategies, upgrade pathways, and realistic transition scenarios.

The objective of this report is to serve as a centralized hub where individuals within the ecosystem can effortlessly track and evaluate the latest research developments regarding this critical issue.
The report provides an extensive overview of:
- The current landscape of quantum computing and various technologies that may lead to significant advancements toward creating effective devices.
- The extent of exposure; specifically how many bitcoins and their total value are currently at risk from long-range attacks by sufficiently powerful quantum computers.
- Post-quantum cryptographic methods along with ongoing research aimed at developing variants tailored for Bitcoin’s specific architecture and operational mechanisms.
- Diverse approaches for integrating post-quantum cryptography into Bitcoin while weighing the pros and cons associated with each method.
- Various strategies for securely transferring vulnerable coins to quantum-resistant addresses should a sufficiently advanced quantum computer emerge before users adopt post-quantum cryptography solutions.
- An exploration of potential migration scenarios under different conditions that could unfold during this transition process.
They intend to continuously update this repository/report as new findings emerge and as solutions evolve over time.
This announcement follows increasing concerns about whether developers are adequately recognizing or addressing these challenges. It aims to shed light on ongoing efforts by developers focused on researching viable solutions for these issues.
