According to Alex Thorn, the head of firmwide research at Galaxy Digital, there is a strong possibility that the U.S. government will establish its long-awaited Strategic Bitcoin Reserve by year-end.

Nonetheless, some industry leaders express skepticism about this timeline.

In a post on X last Thursday, Thorn remarked, “I believe there’s a significant chance that this year the U.S. government will announce the formation of its strategic Bitcoin reserve (SBR) and officially recognize BTC as a strategic asset.”

He further noted that “the market appears to be undervaluing the probability of such an announcement.”

Recent developments indicate progress in planning

Although President Trump signed an executive order in March to officially create both the Strategic Bitcoin (BTC) Reserve and U.S. Digital Asset Stockpile, no detailed strategic plan has been publicly confirmed yet.

A number of recent events suggest that plans are still advancing. On Tuesday, lawmakers introduced legislation requiring the U.S. Treasury to assess and report on both feasibility and technical aspects related to establishing a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.

Additonally, Cointelegraph reported on July 31 that Trump’s crypto liaison reaffirmed interest in creating a strategic Bitcoin reserve despite only briefly mentioning it in their latest crypto policy report.

However, not all participants within the cryptocurrency market share optimism regarding swift implementation; Dave Weisburger, former chairman at CoinRoutes believes it may take until 2026 for any significant action.

Caution among Bitcoin advocates regarding potential delays

“I’ve often stated that this administration is too astute to make any announcements until after they have reached their initial accumulation goals,” Weisburger commented.

A number of prominent supporters within the Bitcoin community are concerned about possible setbacks if further delays occur in accumulating BTC assets.
