The value of gold soared to an unprecedented $30 trillion on Thursday, with the price per ounce reaching a historic high of $4,357.
This remarkable market cap positions gold as 14.5 times more valuable than Bitcoin, which currently has a market capitalization near $2.1 trillion.
Gold’s valuation also surpasses the combined worth of the world’s seven largest tech giants—Nvidia, Microsoft, Apple, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Tesla—whose total market cap is approximately $20 trillion.
Unlike company stocks where market cap is determined by outstanding shares, gold’s market capitalization reflects the cumulative value of all mined gold throughout history; however exact figures remain elusive.
Gold’s Meteoric Rise and Bitcoin’s Potential Upside
Since January 1st this year, gold prices have surged by 64% as investors seek refuge in this asset amidst currency devaluation concerns and global geopolitical tensions.

A number of experts suggest that once interest in physical gold wanes slightly; funds may flow into Bitcoin—a digital counterpart often dubbed “digital gold.”

“Today alone saw over $300 billion added to Gold’s valuation,” noted crypto analyst Sykodelic on Thursday. “It’s akin to adding an entire Bitcoin-sized economy within just one week,” he elaborated further.
“It baffles me how many fail to recognize that when Gold takes a breather; BTC will likely surge,” he stated emphatically.
“Should Bitcoin manage to decouple from US stock movements amid current geopolitical strains—and especially if there’s any slowdown in capital moving towards precious metals—it might represent ‘the trade after this trade’,” opined venture capitalist Joe Consorti thoughtfully.
