Breez, Lightspark, and Tether Unveil Time2Build: A Global Hackathon Offering $25K in Prizes to Enhance Open-Source Bitcoin Integrations

Breez, in collaboration with Lightspark, Tether, and other key players in the Bitcoin industry, has unveiled Time2Build. This global developer challenge and international hackathon aims to integrate Bitcoin payments into open-source software. Participants have a chance to win from a $25,000 prize pool awarded in Bitcoin and secure residencies at Draper University and PlebLab. The initiative is supported by Plan B Network, Fulgur Ventures, and Geyser Fund as reported by Bitcoin Magazine.

This groundbreaking hackathon seeks to foster widespread adoption of peer-to-peer financial transactions within applications used globally. Spearheaded by Breez, Time2Build invites developers to incorporate the Breez SDK — an open-source toolkit for self-custodial Lightning Network payments — into existing projects. Unlike typical hackathons where submissions end at completion; here they must be integrated into production by project maintainers for lasting impact. Eligible entries should use free and open-source software (FOSS) licenses with active communities serving real-world users.

The competition runs from October 7 through November 15 of 2025 with integration allowed until December 16 of that year; winners will be announced on January 8th of 2026. A judging panel featuring Jeff Booth—author of “The Price of Tomorrow”—alongside representatives from Lightspark,Tether, and Breez will evaluate submissions.Prizes include $7K for top-tier projects,$3.5K mid-tier,and$1K select entries—all paid out in bitcoin along with residency opportunities.
