Bitwise Partners with Lombard to Enhance Bitcoin Smart Accounts for Institutional Yield
Bitwise Asset Management has emerged as the inaugural strategic yield partner within Lombard’s Bitcoin Smart Accounts framework, marking a significant advancement in bridging institutional custody with effective on-chain Bitcoin utilization.
This partnership aims to unlock yield and liquidity for approximately $500 billion worth of $BTC currently secured under regulated custody. Notably, this initiative does not necessitate any asset transfers or alterations to existing custodial frameworks, according to Lombard.
The launch of Bitcoin Smart Accounts is anticipated in Q2 2026. This innovative solution will enable high-net-worth individuals, institutional asset managers, and corporate treasuries to earn yields or borrow against their $BTC, all while retaining complete control over their assets.
Bitwise will offer institutional-level yield strategies that merge DeFi lending with carefully selected real-world asset portfolios. Meanwhile, Morpho will ensure stablecoin liquidity for borrowing options.
Jacob Phillips, co-founder of Lombard, emphasized the importance of attracting institutional investors: “Since we introduced Bitcoin Smart Accounts in February, we’ve seen a considerable demand for solutions that facilitate productive deployment of Bitcoin while maintaining current custody arrangements.
