What is the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojna?

The Union Cabinet on July 1 had approved the Employment Linked Incentive Scheme – the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana. The policy is proposed to support employment generation, enhance employability and social security across all sectors, with special focus on the manufacturing sector.

The scheme consists of two parts: Part A and Part B.

Part A of Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana

Under the Part A of the scheme, a one-time incentive will be given to first-time employees, which would be equivalent to the average one-month wage (Basic plus DA) up to Rs 15,000. This would be paid in two instalments, the website added. Employees with a gross wage up to Rs 1 lakh are eligible for this incentive.

Part B of Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana

Part B is for the employers and provides them with support for providing job opportunities to people in all sectors, with special focus on the manufacturing sector. This particular part states that the establishments will get an incentive of up to Rs 3,000 per month for each additional employee, including the first-timers and re-joiners, for a sustained period of at least six months, the website and news agency PTI added.

It added that this incentive will be paid for two years, but for establishments in the manufacturing sector, it will be provided for four years.

Eligibility criteria for Part B

The scheme lays down conditions for the establishments to be eligible for the benefits under Part B. It said that those establishments with fewer than 50 existing employees must hire at least two additional employees, while those with 50 or more existing employees must hire at least five additional employees, to be eligible for the incentive.

The new hires must be maintained for at least six months. The establishments that are exempted under the Employees’ Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952, are also included in the scheme.

These companies must file the Electronic Challan-cum-Return and open Universal Account Numbers for all their existing and new employees using the facility provided on the UMANG App.
