A few years back, I embarked on an unexpected journey: to establish a Bitcoin circular economy in a small fishing village located in Brazil’s Northeast region. This endeavor was not fueled by venture capital, cryptocurrency hype, or false promises. Instead, it relied on grassroots efforts involving nodes and satoshis, hands-on education, and numerous conversations with locals.
This initiative led to the creation of Praia Bitcoin Jericoacoara—a bold experiment aimed at achieving financial independence through open-source tools while enjoying the sandy beaches.
Over four years at Praia Bitcoin Jericoacoara transformed this coastal town into an interactive classroom for Bitcoin. We welcomed families, shop owners, and street vendors; educated them about self-custody in intimate settings; established dependable Lightning routes along with point-of-sale systems; initiated social programs funded by sats; and organized meetups that integrated Bitcoin into everyday life.
Living according to the principles of the Bitcoin standard opened my eyes to the true developments occurring at the forefront of technology.
In August 2025, I shared four concise articles on X platform. Each piece varied in style but collectively addressed one central question: What role should we assign to Bitcoin and what responsibilities do we have in its development? The series included:
- A field report detailing our collaboration with the local Community Bank focused on Bitcoin
- An analysis critiquing bitcoin maximalism’s inflexibility
- An invitation letter directed towards Bhutan’s prime minister proposing consideration of using satoshi as a unit of account
- A public plea advocating for maintaining Bitcoin as a peer-to-peer cash system
The common thread among these writings is our aspiration to harmonize practice with theory while envisioning a progressive future.
The first article detailed real-life challenges faced during our quest to build a circular economy based around Bitcoin in Northeast Brazil. Inspired by El Salvador’s successful model known as “Bitcoin Beach,” we anchored our project within education initiatives that foster inclusion alongside local infrastructure development. We set up servers for transactions while onboarding merchants and neighbors alike; developed social programs; and sought official recognition as a Community Bank dedicated solely to Bitcoins.

Despite facing rejection from local authorities due largely due state-level legal unpreparedness regarding cryptocurrencies—we persevered resolutely believing that when deeply rooted within communities—the potential exists for more than just currency—it becomes transformative power capable enough change lives! Unfortunately though officials struggled grasp this concept leading them deny us registration requests intended create what would have been pioneering community bank focused exclusively around bitcoins!
The second article delved into ideological conflicts existing even amongst community members themselves where some adhered strictly adhering maximalist views which posited only one legitimate form crypto existed whilst dismissing all others deemed fraudulent . While such rhetoric historically played vital role safeguarding ecosystem integrity exposing scams accelerating market maturation—I questioned whether it still serves large-scale adoption goals? Is it effective communicating value newcomers? I found myself overlooking valuable technological solutions simply because they lay outside confines maxilmalist bubble!
Upon revisiting discussions surrounding topic after engaging every reply quote offered up my conclusion emerged clear—other projects ultimately act funnels sandboxes distribution channels guiding individuals towards authentic adoption! Stablecoins altcoins memecoins centralized currencies are steering users toward genuine utilization absorbing inflation assisting price establishment commodities perhaps time embrace new posture—not abandoning principles rather embracing flexible vision centered essence willing engage constantly evolving world exhibiting skepticism open-mindedness educating regulators defining decentralized nature versus centralized alternatives!
