In his latest remarks on X, Todd defended Back and criticized contemporary journalistic practices. He accused filmmakers of manipulating narratives for their documentaries.

Bitcoin Innovator Cautions About Potential Risks for Cryptocurrency Developers

Reflecting on his involvement in the HBO documentary “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery,” released in 2024, where he was depicted as Bitcoin’s creator, Todd revealed that he was not informed about the film’s focus on uncovering Satoshi’s identity. Instead, he believed he was invited solely to discuss technological history.

Todd characterized this deceptive approach as parasitic behavior that threatens the integrity of the industry itself.

1) I wasn’t informed they were making it about finding Satoshi.

2) Someone needs to engage with journalists; ignoring them leads to even worse consequences.

Todd criticized the recent NYT piece regarding Adam Back as yet another attempt to exploit a productive community. He argues that such articles are not only technically inaccurate but also pose significant risks by turning developers into targets for criminals who may seek access to Satoshi’s rumored wealth.

This heightened risk creates an unsafe atmosphere for those working towards advancing Bitcoin’s future.

In response to inquiries from users questioning why he and other influential figures like Adam Back still interact with media outlets, Todd explained it is a matter of “choosing between two undesirable options.” He believes if experts completely withdraw from public discourse, journalists will fabricate even more outrageous conspiracy theories without any factual rebuttal.
