Netflix Prohibits Bitcoin Sponsorships on Boxer Gear During Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua Event
In a surprising move, Netflix has barred any Bitcoin-related sponsorships from being displayed on the fight gear of professional boxer Justin Cardona during a highly anticipated event that was streamed live. This decision led to urgent modifications just days ahead of the match, as reported by Kent Halliburton, CEO of Sazmining.
Sazmining specializes in providing Bitcoin mining services powered by renewable hydroelectric energy. Halliburton elaborated on this situation in a statement released to Bitcoin Magazine. The sponsorship involved Cardona’s participation in the undercard for the Jake Paul versus Anthony Joshua fight scheduled for December 19, 2025, at Miami’s Kaseya Center. With Netflix as the exclusive broadcaster for this event, viewership estimates ranged from 20 million to an impressive 100 million.
GM! It’s a great day to learn about hard money #bitcoin , shoutout to @sazmining for the threads

In mid-October 2025, Sazmining and other sponsors like LEDN secured placements on Cardona’s trunks featuring standalone Bitcoin logos. All necessary approvals were submitted before October’s end and production commenced without any issues until early December.
However, just one week prior to fight night—on December 12—Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), which co-promotes alongside Netflix, notified Cardona’s team about an unexpected “secondary review” initiated by Netflix. This review resulted in an outright ban on all forms of Bitcoin-related branding during various activities associated with fight week including press conferences and weigh-ins; non-compliance could have led to penalties against Cardona.
The notification cited “Prohibited per our policy,” yet did not provide further clarification regarding this decision.
A review of Netflix’s sponsorship guidelines reveals restrictions against categories such as weapons and drugs along with “speculative financial products,” which encompass schemes designed for quick wealth accumulation or payday loans; however, there is no explicit mention of Bitcoin itself within these rules. Financial services are categorized under “restricted,” requiring individual assessments alongside sectors like alcohol and gambling.
Interestingly enough, other sponsors within restricted categories successfully navigated through approval processes without facing similar obstacles; an insurance company backing Cardona received clearance while platforms like Polymarket and Draft Kings prominently featured their branding throughout the broadcast despite involving speculative financial elements related to betting.

This abrupt ban forced Cardona into replacing his custom trunks at his own cost—a disruption he described as particularly challenging given that it was one of his most significant fights ever. He expressed pride in representing companies affiliated with Bitcoin: “In boxing I strive fiercely every round because time is limited and each punch matters; similarly with Bitcoin—it has a finite supply that cannot be diluted.”
Halliburton pointed out this inconsistency while underscoring how far institutional acceptance had come regarding cryptocurrency by late-2026—with spot ETFs launched by major firms attracting billions while public companies hold substantial amounts of BTC assets amid discussions among nations considering adding it into their reserves too! He found it astonishing that censorship continues against both cryptocurrencies & businesses linked thereto calling such actions incoherent especially when similar sponsors had been previously approved according guidelines set forth by them!
The incident serves as another reminder highlighting ongoing challenges faced by crypto firms striving towards mainstream visibility via sports partnerships despite its evolution into becoming valued over $2 trillion now equipped with regulated products available today!
This experience reinforces why it’s crucial for promoters aligned closely around principles upheld within crypto ecosystems – moving forward toward future matches will prioritize environments fostering greater exposure opportunities specifically tailored towards combat sports enthusiasts interested exploring more about digital currencies alike!
