Uala Reaches $3.2 Billion Valuation In Latest Funding Round

Uala, an Argentina-based neobank, has closed a successful funding round, becoming one of the largest fintech companies in Argentina and Latin America.

The company, which serves over 11 million people in Argentina, Colombia, and Mexico, raised $195 million in a funding round led by Allianz X, the investment arm of Allianz Group, with participation of Stone Ridge Holdings Group, Tencent, TABLE Holdings, L.P., Soros Fund Management LLC, and D1 Capital Partners, among others.

After this round, Uala reaches a valuation of $3.2 billion, signaling the growing investor trust in its business model.

The institution provides digital banking services to its customers, offering savings accounts, dollar-based accounts, credit card services, loan opportunities, investment options, and life insurance.

The company explained that these funds would be directed to expand its operations to more countries in Latam, without disclosing which nations would be targeted in the future.

One of the business sectors that Uala seeks to capture is the insurance and investments space, supported by Allianz’s solid experience in the field. With Allianz’s involvement, the company has already generated over 300,000 insurance quotes in just a few weeks.

Pierpaolo Barbieri, founder and CEO of Uala, reinforced the relevance of Uala’s move towards Latin America as a decisive step to expand its dominance in an under-invested region.

He stated:

“Latin America remains one of the least invested regions in the world, and yet the demand for financial services is enormous, with abundant talent and ambition to support it.”

Uala was one of the first companies to launch crypto trading services in Argentina back in 2022. Nonetheless, it dropped this functionality after a resolution banning virtual wallets from offering crypto services was issued.

However, the Central Bank of Argentina would be working on a resolution to allow banks to offer crypto services this year, possibly extending these permissions to virtual wallet operators like Uala.
