Executives within the cryptocurrency sector are meticulously analyzing the National Cyber Strategy unveiled by US President Donald Trump on Friday, looking for insights regarding potential government backing for the crypto market.

“For the first time in any US cybersecurity strategy, crypto and blockchain have been specifically identified as technologies that need to be ‘protected and secured,’” stated Alex Thorn, head of firmwide research at Galaxy Digital, in a post on X.

The terms “crypto” and “blockchain” appeared once in the six-page document:

“We will develop secure technologies and supply chains that safeguard user privacy from design through deployment, including bolstering the security of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies.”

Nevertheless, industry leaders are also interpreting various sections of this report to understand their implications for cryptocurrency.

Thorn highlighted a commitment to “eradicate criminal infrastructure while denying financial escape routes and safe havens.” He remarked that this phrasing could easily lead to increased scrutiny on mixers, privacy coins, and unregulated exit points.

A Bitcoin VC acknowledges serious concerns about quantum computing

The founder of Castle Island Ventures Nic Carter has recently voiced his apprehensions regarding quantum computing’s potential risks to Bitcoin (BTC). He pointed out a section stating that the government “will expedite modernization efforts aimed at enhancing federal information systems’ defensibility by adopting cybersecurity best practices such as post-quantum cryptography and zero-trust architecture.”

Carter expressed skepticism in an X post saying it “sure seems like they’re taking quantum seriously. Nothing to worry about though,” indicating his concern over how seriously these threats are being taken.

This discussion arises amidst ongoing debates within the crypto community concerning how imminent a threat quantum computing poses to Bitcoin. On February 15th Carter mentioned that major institutions holding Bitcoin might eventually grow impatient with developers who fail to address these quantum concerns swiftly enough.

Trump emphasizes future generations as crucial

The National Cyber Security strategy outlined by Trump reflects his priorities aimed at ensuring America maintains its dominance in cyberspace. The report places significant emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI).

“We will protect our AI technology stack—including data centers—and foster innovation within AI security,” it states.

Additionally, Trump underscored recruiting upcoming talent into cyber roles so they can “design and implement advanced cyber technologies.”

The United States typically issues a national cybersecurity strategy with each administration outlining governmental priorities related to emerging technological trends.
